The French bulldogs would seem like just the average dogs but rather they’re fast becoming one of the most popular breeds of bulldogs at the moment. Why is that? Probably because people think that it’s a french breed making it classy and a must-have. But that’s not true as the french suffix attached to it is just a nickname.
The French bulldog actually originated from England. They were created as miniature versions of the bulldog and accompanied Lace makers in England to France. These lacemakers took their dogs with them when the lace industry moved to France. So, the name came about after the English bulldogs most likely bred with terriers to create bouledogues français or French bulldogs.
Then again, that’s not the reason why this breed of bulldog is now popular. It may be part of it but not entirely. Check out some reasons why they are below.
1. They Are Made To Be Great Companions By Default
French bulldogs are quite the affectionate and friendly dogs that were bred to accompany their owners. Despite the fact that they take more time before they’re well trained, they still get along well with other dog breeds and aren’t big on barking. French bulldogs find it convenient to stay in small areas without stress, requiring little exercise, and don’t mind the comfort of a crate. Caring for them isn’t hard work.
2. They Make Great Babysitters
There’s a story about a baby orangutan who was abandoned by his mother and the Twycross Zoo in England wasn’t sure if he would survive. Fortunately, there was a French bulldog who stepped into the picture and cared for the little animal. They became inseparable friends who often slept together until the orangutan was old enough to join his other species at the zoo.
3. Frenchies Have Fantastic Temperament
French bulldogs have been described as having a cool personality and at the same love to play. They are able to interact properly with other companion pets if those animals are equally sociable. Find the right bulldog with Uptown Puppies and experience gentility at the peak. As stated earlier, housebreaking the Frenchies might take time but it comes easy to them as long as there’s food involved. Their nature makes them eager to train if it’s done more or less like a game.
Considering they’re still animals nonetheless, Frenchies have a mischievous side, as such, would need an owner who can be playful with them and doesn’t deviate from their learning plan. Professionals have explained that the ideal owners for a French Bulldog are individuals who are patient, are naturally kind with gentle hands, are able to love unconditionally, and are sociable. Essentially, French Bulldogs are pets who want to give love and be recipients of it too.
4. Don’t Like Criticism But Love Talking
As weird as that may sound, Frenchies are quite sensitive pets. So, they are not ones to take criticism lightly. Scolding your French bulldog might cause it to become put in a mood. They take it seriously and can begin moping around the house. Rather than being harsh on them, they do prefer when you motivate them by using positive reinforcement with food inclusive of course.
On a lighter note, French bulldogs are not barkers much, however, what they do like to do is talk. Weird, right? But it’s interesting how they make use of a complex system of yawns, gargles, and yips to pass across what is considered their own language. Of course, you knew they can’t talk like humans right? In some instances, Frenchies will join you in a sing-along while you drive the car.
5. Simple Living Requirements
French Bulldogs are not pets that require complex care. Keep in mind when looking for a Frenchie that they can be playful, they’re comfortable sitting at your feet while you’re working or take a quick nap on your lap. What you should expect from them is to see them all ready to jog or play catch.
Their physical structure doesn’t give them the kind of luxury for a wonderful time on the beach. You would put them in harm’s way if they’re left under extreme heat. A 15-minute walk or play session in the cool of the evenings is just enough physical activity. Unlike most dogs, you don’t need a big yard or space for them to be convenient.
6. They Are Loved By Celebrities
One other reason why it is likely getting more popular is because of the number of celebrities that have been flaunting in public. They’ve made a ton of appearances in the tabloids all thanks to the VIPs like Hugh Jackman, Lady Gaga, and The Rock who walk about with them. Who wouldn’t get popular when they’re seen walking with more than two celebs?
Apart from the fact that it’s a very famous dog, this special breed isn’t just for anyone. People who love simplicity and fun are the ones who should consider getting the bulldog.
