If you have a four-legged friend and haven’t heard of Fayie or their dog guides, you’re missing out! Fayie is a fun and educational website that publishes guides for your dog. Their website contains a lot of information for cats and dogs and is worth a visit.
Food safety and dogs
One of the topics that Fayie covers extensively with their guides is food safety as it related to dogs. That’s actually how I first ended up on their website. Needless to say, they’ve published some interesting content, and I’ve learned things I didn’t know to ask about.
Can dogs eat eggs?
Well, it turns out that it depends on whether or not they’re cooked. I previously thought that raw eggs were fine for dogs, although I’d never tried feeding my dog one. Raw eggs contain traces of salmonella that can be harmful to dogs, just like humans.
Cooked eggs on the other hand are good for dogs, in moderation. Dogs benefit from the same nutrients we benefit from such as fatty acids, folate, protein, riboflavin, and vitamin A. Interestingly, while they should not eat raw eggs, clean eggshells are perfectly safe for dogs to eat. They’re also nutritious! Fayie notes that some eggshells contain a preservative coating that can be harmful to dogs, so be careful.
Can dogs eat fruit?
Another question I never really asked but once again found myself reading intently about. Apples without seeds, Apricots without pits, blueberries, cantaloupe without skin, and cranberries are just a few of the fruits that are apparently completely safe for dogs to eat. The list encompasses essentially every fruit I can think of and is an awesome reference when you want to give your dog a treat.
A few of the fruits that are apparently not safe for dogs include avocados, cherries, coconuts, figs, and grapes. Interestingly, all of these fruits are particularly dangerous for dogs. They all act as a form of poison for the dogs and should be avoided at all costs. Fayie recommends taking your dog to the vet if you think they’ve ingested one of these fruits.
Can dogs eat a “raw only” diet?
Dogs used to be wolves, so the answer to this question makes sense. Yes, they are able to eat a diet of raw meat and veggies. Some of the benefits owners report after switching their dogs to a raw diet include shinier coats, healthier skin, and improved mood.
Fayie recommends consulting your vet when beginning the transition to raw foods. It should be done gradually, and starting them out slowly is ideal. They recommend using carrots to gauge their interest in veggies, and going from there. The raw meat should also be very fresh, and should not contain bones that are too small for dogs to eat.
Fayie puppy checklist
Their article for expecting dog parents on what you need when you’re going to be getting a puppy was very cute and informative. While most people understand that getting a puppy is an undertaking and a big commitment, this guide really brings it home. They go through over 10 different items you’ll need if you’re going to be bringing a puppy home any time soon. It was very enlightening.
